But actually, it is widely believed that eating half a grapefruit before each meal may help you lose up to a pound a week! A compound in the tangy fruit can lower insulin, a fat-storage hormone, and that can lead to weight loss. It’s also a good source of protein, and because it’s at least 90% water, it can fill you up so you eat less. Grapefruit actually lowers the insulin levels in the body – not by a great degree, but by some. This slightly decreased insulin level prevents the body from storing as much sugar as fat. Those lower insulin levels also help curb appetite, as a high insulin level is what turns the brain on that it’s time to bring some energy into the stomach.

Another added benefit here is that grapefruit is one of the many super foods that are high in fiber with very few calories (a half grapefruit is only about 40 calories, usually a little less). The amazing thing about grapefruit is that it’s one of the well-known “negative calorie” foods – meaning it takes more calories to digest it than exist in the fruit. The greatest benefit is found in eating fresh grapefruit, with the next best option being grapefruit juice (100%, not mixed form or artificially sweetened/flavored). Try to aim for a juice with a high amount of pulp. Pills and extracts available in nutritional stores just don’t provide the same results, and generally cost more than just buying some grapefruit at the market.

      I think you need not to worry on consuming this fruit as you are not fatty enough.

    Usually I do not learn from posts on blogs, but I would like to say that this write-up very compelled me to check out and do so. Actually, I’m a health conscious. I have my diet and exercise routine everyday. I don’t know that grapefruit is a superfood. I’ll try this one for my diet program everyday. Thanks for sharing such wonderful article.

    I love to make a mix of grapefruit + melon + watermelon + orange combination. It tastes the best at 6 a.m. each morning hehe. When I started my raw food diet I’ve slowly started to discontinue my daily rations of coffee. It was just not needed after all the vitamine C and placeboo effect the grapefruit have made on me hehe ;). Thanks for the great article, apprecieated it !

    I have to say between grapefruit and bananas I have my day pretty much sorted. It’s amazing the benefits you get from just a couple of helpings of fruit a day.
    Take my advice folks get a banana into you once a day. You will seriously feel the difference after only a few days.
